CHAPTER NEWSLETTERS:
As a service to the chapters of AFE Region 5 we have provided a way
for you to post your chapter's newsletter. Dependent upon your level of
web expertise and the amount of work you want to put into it the region
provides three methods of posting information to accommodate any level of
expertise from the novice to the experienced web designer. Below
you will find listed the different methods with an explanation of what's
involved. Once you've decided which method is best for your chapter,
Jerry Bender at 864-895-5085 and we'll get you
started. The navigational bars to the left will link you to chapter
newsletters and chapter websites.
It's as simple as A-B-C:
-
All submissions must be in electronic form as described below for
each method. We do not accept hard copies. This would
consume too much time converting each chapter's info into an electronic
form for the web.
-
We are limiting each Chapter to a maximum of 50 K on the AFE 5
Site. This limit is adequate to load a large amount of text with
several nice graphics. To give you an idea, the entire AFE 5 site,
not including the chapter newsletters, is under 200K with over 10 pages.
Of course, if you have something special to share, we can always make
exceptions. If you wish to develop a site with multiple pages and a
navigational structure, we recommend you publish your own web site on the
Internet then we will link to it.
-
We are allowing up to 2 updates per month for your page.
Posting Methods:
-
SIMPLE TEXT: This is the easiest method. Simply write your
newsletter either as the text of an e-mail
or attach it to an e-mail as
either a Word (.doc), WordPerfect (.wpd), or Notepad (.txt) document.
MSWord is the preferred format. Large documents should be
compressed (zipped) prior to emailing. You can also snail mail your
newsletter in one of these formats on a CD or DVD. You will be given an address if you would like to
do this. (Please note: other formats than those listed above in some case
may not be usable or may result in a loss of some content.)
-
HTML: If you are a little more advanced in web design, you can
create HTML documents including graphics and e-mail these to the
webmaster. HTML editors, such as Microsoft FrontPage work well for
this. You can also find some really good free editors on the Completely
Free Software Site site. Your materials will be reviewed and
then posted on your chapter page. Please keep you graphics to a
minimum and compress them before uploading. This is because graphics
take up the most space in a server. Just remember to keep them small
since some servers will reject large e-mails.
-
YOUR OWN SITE: Of course the preferred way is to publish your
own site and then we will provide a link to your site. If you think
that you might want to establish your own site and want some help or
pointers please feel free to contact Jerry
Bender at Chapter 59. If your chapter wants to establish their
own site but doesn't have someone with the expertise or time, a low cost
solution can be provided by Shadow
Chaser Productions. Check out their web site offerings and email@shadowchaser.com.
